Protagonists of Garibaldi Tall Ships Regatta 2010 is the "Tall Ships" - or "vessels with high trees" - of the schools of sea around the world and their crews composed of professional sailors and more than 150 young volunteers, aged from 16 to 25 years, lovers of the sea and sailing.

The tall ships, moored in Trapani from 16 to 19 April, will be the focus of an intense program of activities: excursions to discover the excellence of the cultural and historical heritage of the area, visiting tall ships at berth, exhibitions, cultural, social and competitions for schools, the White Night, shows and concerts, sporting events and important guests!

]]>10 Apr 2010 10:00:00 -0100<![CDATA["Gloria in Excelsis Deo", exhibition of statues of the Infant Jesus at the Diocesan Museum of St. Augustine in Trapani]]>The exhibition consists of forty-two original articles which thanks to the presence of certain signs and symbols can be named with specific titles: from Salvator Mundi characterized by the attitude of blessing and with a globe in a hand, the Mystic Lamb, a theme invoked by the presence of sheep accompanied by the symbols of the Passion, the Good Shepherd, the farmer. The exhibited works come from Trapani, Erice, Salemi and Alcamo.

Visiting hours Monday - Friday 16.30 / 19.30 - Saturday and Sunday 9.30 / 12.30 - 16/20, Sundays and public holidays 11/13 - 16/19.

Of course the period is not suitable for a swim in the sea or for a sunbath (although the average temperature during this period is between 18 and 22 degrees), but there are many other good reasons "in the program."

The wine festival "di ... Vino" in Marsala (30 minutes from Trapani)

From 4th  to 8th  December in Marsala the wine will be the protagonist of a real festival, this great event for four days will see the  wine on  the center of several activities and events: conventions and meetings with experts, city tours and archaeological places of the neighbourhood (as Mozia), sports competitions, tastings of typical products and much more.

 

"Wine Weekend, Showcase of Alcamo Doc" in Alcamo (25 minutes from Trapani)

Three days dedicated to the wine world, its suggestions and sensations and in particular to Alcamo Doc, one of the most popular Doc in Sicily. The exhibition, the first edition, will take place December from 4th  to 6th in Alcamo (Trapani), in western Sicily. The event consists of  tasting and themed meetings, guided tours at the cellars of the "Wine Road Alcamo Doc" and the museum of wine, dinners with themed menus at restaurants, shows of the famous "Pupi Siciliani". The event also provides TINTURIA (Note Sicilian band) in concert on Saturday 6th at 22.30.

 

"Erice Cibus Venus - temptations of Agro Ericino" in Erice (15 minutes from Trapani)

The old town of Erice from 8th  to 13th  December will be the stage of the event "Erice Cibus Venus - temptations of agro Erice, an event organized at the opening of the local Enoteca. Among the activities planned there are tasting of the typical cakes prepared by monks of Erice, roast chestnuts and mulled wine, a wine shop tours, tourist-based menus of local specialties at the restaurants, street artists, film screenings, concerts, among which MORGAN's one (known Italian artist and presenter of the television program X-Facotor).

]]>28 Nov 2009 10:00:00 -0100<![CDATA[Christmas Holidays in Sicily: Trapani to discover the local cuisine and live nativity]]>In Sicily the magic Christmas feast, founded in 350 AD by the Western Church, is celebrated in all respects. Old and new traditions, religion, folklore and culinary blend together to make one this period of the year.

The table is prepared with typical Sicilian dishes. Like Cuccìa of Saint Lucia, that inaugurate this holiday, dishes prepared just for December 13, day of the patron. The classic and famous Sicilian Cassata, that requires ingredients like sponge cake, ricotta and icing sugar. The Buccellato, nougat like cedar, obtained by cooking chopped cedar and orange peel with honey, cinnamon and vanilla. I Mostaccioli or Mustazzola, and also the cakes with figs, formerly offered at the end of the Christmas novena, the Cassatelle, Pastries stuffed with ricotta, the Sfinci, donuts based on potato starch.
To symbolize the arrival of the holidays there is also the nurture cribs, that are of different shapes, types and materials.

The Pepoli Museum of Trapani holds  a rich collection of cribs made in gold, silver and coral, works made by famous sculptors like John Matera. Whole villages become live nativity, where the inhabitants under the sound of bagpipes and songs of the novena, dress in old clothes and staged ancient crafts. The oldest and most beautiful among the living nativities is the Custonaci one, just 15 minutes from Trapani, in the cave of prehistoric Mangiapane Scurati (from 25 December to 6 January 2010).

]]>5 Feb 2009 10:00:00 -0100<![CDATA[The Crucifix of Michelangelo lands at Trapani]]>A one-off chance for who will be at Trapani in March and a further motivation to visit our town and its fantastic territory. We are talking about the absolute first exhibition of the marvellous wooden Crucifix attributed to Michelangelo bought by Italy last month. The work was already exhibited at Rome last December, in the Yellow Room of  Montecitorio, and it was visited by 28.000 visitors (with peaks of more than 1000 people a day). The  exhibition will be in Trapani, in the Saint Augustin church (in the old town centre), from 6th to 20th March 2009.

NOTE: untill the end of March Trapani can be reached directly thanks to Ryanair from Milan, Pisa, Roma, Barcelona, London and Malta (from 30th March many others fights will be effective).

]]>31 Jan 2009 10:00:00 -0100<![CDATA[Easter time: the picturesque Misteri Procession comes back]]>The  Mysteries Procession, which has been representing for 400 years, takes place in Trapani the 10th April from 2.00 p. m. and it continues for almost  24 hours, till Saturday. It is the longest Italian religious event and it is also among the oldest. The sacred groups of the Misteri go around for most part of the city streets, among the spectaculars lights, sounds, colours and emotions. It is a group of 20 artistic portraits of the Passion and Death of Christ, they are exactly 18 groups, plus the two simulacrums of Jesus died and of Our Lady of Sorrows.
